Snowmen at night

Dear Parents,

Here is a look at what is going on this short week in Kindergarten…

Morning Meeting:

  • Sharing topic: What fun activity would you play with a snowman if he was your friend.
  • Snowflake poem



Library: Quiet read/self-selected books

Writing Center: “Sticker stories” students choose 1 sticker, draw a picture and write about their “story”, focusing on writing 1-2 sentences to describe picture.  Students will be writing sentences using a period at the end.

Computer Center: Starfall

Big Books: identifying and writing sight words

Teacher table: CVC words, DIBELS testing

Projector Center: Students will choose a sight word popsicle stick, write a sentence using the word.  Using the projector, they will read their sentence out loud.  Repeat with a new sight word

Parent Games: SNOWBALL CVC words

Students create CVC words using different vowels and consonants.  Students will chop out each sound and read the word.

  • Identifying capital letters, punctuation, blends and sight words in our daily morning message.

Theme and Writing (social studies/science): SNOWMEN

We will start transitioning into writing with lower case letters.  If you notice that your child is still writing their name and words with capital letters, please practice writing with lower case letters.

We will read the following stories:  

Snowmen at night, Snowmen at work, Snowmen all year

  • Writing about what fun sport you would play with your snowmen.
    • Creating a snowman collage out of ripped paper
    • Creating a job for a snowman and writing about the snowman’s duties
      • Creating an outfit that reflects the job of the snowman
      • Writing about what you would do with your snowman all year
        • Draw a picture of themselves with their snowman, focusing on lables



  • Counting to 88 by 1’s
  • Counting by 5’s to 100
  • Counting to 100 by 10’s
  • Number of the day, counting and adding a new tally mark daily
  • Missing numbers
  • Sequencing
  • ST math
  • Dibles Math testing with Mrs. Burks

A few tidbits to remember…

  • It is that time of the year where students start bringing lots of articles of clothing with them to recess. It is very important that students can independently put their outside gear on.  Please practice if they are unable to.
  • Please try your best to have your child to school by 8:40.
  • Homework is due on Friday.
  • NO school on January 24th.
